The Wayne County Detention Center houses sentenced and unsentenced individuals. The facility features 7 floors, the first of which is occupied by the Sheriff’s Office. The bottom floor of the facility is occupied by the booking area. The rest of the floors are for the cellblocks. All but one of these floors have 38 beds. The fifth floor has 48 beds. The facility can hold up to 200 inmates – 178 male inmates and 22 female inmates. The detention center has an average daily population of 340 inmates. The Sheriff Carey A. Winders Detention Center Annex enables the Sheriff’s Office to house more inmates, having a total bed capacity of 221.
