The Sheriff’s Office oversees the operations of the Alamance County Detention Centers. These facilities provide a safe, secure, and humane environment for individuals who have been charged or convicted of criminal or civil offenses. The detention centers employ 150 people within its four divisions – platoons, personnel/support, facilities/maintenance, and administration.

The original detention center has a capacity of 156 beds while its Annex has 80 beds. The new Alamance County Detention Center, on the other hand, can house 240 inmates, bringing the overall total number of beds to 476.

The Sheriff’s Office is the main law enforcement agency in Alamance County. It is responsible for providing various law enforcement services to the 170,000 residents living within the area. Sheriff Terry S. Johnson is the head of the ACSO and has been serving the public since 2002. Chief Deputy Parker is the second in command, helping the Sheriff oversee the various divisions in the agency.
