The Carteret County Detention Center is the only jail facility in the county. it is responsible for the safety and security of all individuals in the custody of the Sheriff’s Office. The facility has an average daily population of 128 inmates with an average confinement of 24 days.

How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates confined at the Carteret County Detention Center are only allowed to receive professional or legal mail. All incoming mail must be labeled as Legal mail and sent by the inmate’s attorney of record, the courts, or a State’s attorney. For general correspondence, family and friends can send them through a third-party mail vendor, Pay Tel Telecommunications. All general correspondence must include the sender’s full name and return address. it must also include the inmate’s full name and inmate number. All mail will be opened and scanned into an electronic document. They are then screened for approval before getting forwarded to the inmate’s electronic account. To send general mail to an inmate, it must be addressed in the following manner:

Family and friends can deposit money into an inmate’s account using the kiosk located in the main lobby of the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office. The kiosk is open for us from Monday through Friday, 8am to 5pm, except on holidays. A transaction fee of $3 will be charged by the kiosk provider. Funds can also be deposited online by visiting the JailATM website or by sending money orders, certified checks, payroll checks, etc. sent through mail. Checks and money orders must be made payable in the inmate’s full name. Keep in mind that these will be deposited into the inmate’s account on the following business day.

Visitation Hours

Inmates housed in the Carteret Detention Center are allowed 1 visitation per week on their assigned day. Visits are 10 to 20 minutes long. Visiting days are Monday through Thursday, from 2pm to 3pm. Inmates are required to submit a Visitor Approval list each month to ensure that he/she is eligible for visitation on his/her assigned day. Only 3 adults or 1 minor with a parent or guardian are allowed per visit. The schedule for visitation is based on the inmate’s housing unit:

Monday: A & B Block
Tuesday: Dorm
Wednesday: C Block *female
Thursday: D & E Block

The Carteret County Sheriff’s Office maintains an online database of all inmates currently confined in the Detention Center. The list is arranged alphabetically based on their last names. Each inmate has a profile which contains their photo, complete name, name ID, race, sex, admit date, admit time, confining agency, charges, court date, and bond.

The Sheriff’s Office also posts all active warrants online. All warrants listed have been verified by the Carteret County Sheriff’s Office.
