The Dare County Detention Center is a medium-level security facility that holds individuals awaiting trial or those serving a sentence of no more than 24 months. The facility can accommodate up to 133 inmates. It is located at 1044 Driftwood Drive in Manteo, North Carolina.

How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates housed in the Dare County Detention Center may receive general mail. All incoming mail will be opened and inspected for contraband before getting delivered to the inmate. General mail should include the sender’s complete name and return address. Books, magazines, and newspapers may be mailed to an inmate. However, they should be direct from the publisher. Any money sent in the mail will be deposited in the inmate’s account. The staff at the facility will not accept money orders in the mail. All mail must be addressed in the following manner:

To deposit funds into an inmate’s account, family and friends may visit the McDaniel Supply Company website (jailpackstore.com) which accepts debit and credit cards. If you have any questions, you may contact the company at 912.427.9022. You may also deposit money using the kiosk located in the lobby of the detention center.

Visitation Hours

Inmates housed in the Dare County Detention Center are allowed visitation. All visitors must be on the inmate’s visitation list in order to visit. The list can only contain a maximum of 5 people. Up to 4 individuals including children may visit at a time. Each inmate is allowed 30 minutes of visitation on their scheduled day. Those in lockdown are limited to 15 minutes of visitation on their scheduled day. The schedule for visitation is as follows:

Every Saturday 2pm to 4pm
Every Wednesday 7pm to 9pm
