The Orange County Detention Center houses individuals awaiting trial, inmates sentenced by the state, and temporary Federal prisoners. It can hold up to 129 individuals. The facility is located at 1200 US 70 West in Hillsborough, North Carolina. You can contact them at (919) 245-2940.

How to Send Mail or Package

The Orange County Detention Center uses a mail scanning service. All general mail for inmates are sent to an outside processing center for scanning. Scanned mail will then be returned to the detention center for screening and approval. Only approved mail will be saved to the inmate’s account which he/she will be able to view on a tablet. To send mail to an inmate, you will need to address it in the following manner:

Funds may be deposited into an inmate’s account by using the kiosk located in the lobby of the detention center. You may also deposit money by visiting the JailATM website. Take note that the staff of the detention center will not accept money.

Visitation Hours

Inmates housed in the Orange County Detention Center are allowed visitation. However, due to COVID-19, visitation is currently suspended until further notice.

The Orange County Sheriff’s Office maintains a daily custody report that lists all the inmates currently in their custody. The list is arranged alphabetically. Each inmate is listed along with his race, sex, booking number, charges, booking date and time, and the number of days the inmate has been in custody.
