Visitation Hours
In-person visitation is currently not allowed until further notice at the Chowan County Detention Center due to COVID-19. Family and friends can use the video visitation system provided by HomeWav Inc. to enjoy live video conversations with inmates. To schedule a visit with an inmate, you can visit the HomeWav website.
The Chowan County Sheriff’s Office does not maintain an online jail roster. If you want to locate an inmate at the detention center, you can contact Lieutenant Jackie Riddick at the facility by calling (252) 482-3822.

The Chowan County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for providing law enforcement services to the citizens and visitors of the county. These include enforcing the law, investigating criminal activity, providing custody of arrested individuals, serving civil and criminal processes, and providing court security. The agency is led by Sheriff Basnight who is assisted by his second-in-command, Chief Deputy John McArthur. The Sheriff’s Office consists of several divisions including Administration, Patrol, Criminal Investigations, and 911 Emergency Communications.
