How to Send Mail or Package

Inmates housed in the Johnston County Jail may receive mail from family members and friends. All incoming mail must include the sender’s complete name and return address. Without this, the mail will be returned to the post office. To send mail to the inmate, make sure to address it in the following manner:

There are several ways to deposit funds into an inmate’s account at Johnston County Jail. You may use the kiosk located in the criminal magistrate lobby just outside the jail. It is available for use 24/7. You may also send money orders or certified checks through the mail. Make sure to make them payable in the inmate’s full name. The mail should be addressed to the inmate and sent to PO Box 1496, Smithfield, NC 27577. Funds may also be deposited online by visiting the JailATM website. Please note that there are fees for using this service.

Visitation Hours

Inmates at the Johnston County Jail are allowed visitation. Visits are by appointment only. You may schedule a visit by calling (919) 989-5045 on Tuesday or Wednesday between the hours of 10am – 2pm. Only 4 people are allowed per visit. Each inmate is allowed one 15-minute visit per week. Visitation is held at 127 S. Second Street in Smithfield in the Magistrate’s lobby.

The Johnston County Sheriff’s Office maintains an online list of all inmates currently housed in its facility. The list is arranged alphabetically based on the inmate’s last names. It also shows each inmate’s primary charge. Each inmate has a profile that contains their photo, complete name, age, race, sex, booking date, and arrest date.
