Visitation Hours
Inmates confined at the Burke County Jail are allowed to get visits from family and friends. Each inmate is allowed one on site visit per week which is limited to 15 minutes. Visits are held from 7:15 am until 8:45 am; or 9:15 am until 10:45 am; or 1:15 pm until 2:45 pm; or 7:15 pm until 8:45 pm, depending on the inmate’s scheduled recreation time. The visitation days are as follows:
A Block and B Block, visitation is on Saturdays.
C Block and D Block, visitation is on Sundays.
E Block and F Block, visitation is on Tuesdays.
G Block and J Block, visitation is on Thursdays.
Family and friends can also choose to use the HomeWav video visitation system. All visits, on site and remote, need to be scheduled using this system. On site visits need to be scheduled at least 24 hours in advance. There is no limit to remote visits. However, on-site visits are prioritized over remote visits. In addition, remote visits cost $0.50 per minute which is charged to the visitor’s account.
The Burke County Jail maintains an online database of all inmates currently housed in the facility. If you wish to locate an inmate here, you can search the list using the inmate’s last name, first name, age, sex, race, primary charge, booking agency, and arrest date. The list is arranged alphabetically according to the inmates’ last names. Each inmate’s profile contains his/her mugshot, full name, age, race/sex, arrest date, charges, and total bond amount.
The Burke County Sheriff’s Office also posts a list of people that they have outstanding warrants for. It contains the individual’s complete name, date of birth, charges, and last known address. The Burke County Sheriff’s Office is the principal law enforcement agency in the county. It has several satellite offices in the area including Jonas Ridge, Lake James, Connelly Springs, and Rutherford College. The head of the BCSO is Sheriff Steve E. Whisenant who oversees the different divisions in the agency such as Criminal Investigations, Patrol, Animal Control, and Community Policing.

Burke County can be found in the western region of North Carolina. Its county seat is Morganton which is also the largest city in the area. It has an estimated population of 87,611 based on the 2021 census. The total area of the county is 515 square miles.

Burke County Public Records Information
The Records Division of the Burke County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for making reports available to the public in accordance with North Carolina laws. Any requests for copies of public records from the Sheriff’s Office should be submitted to this division which is open from Mondays through Fridays 8am to 5pm.
